The FIFA Women’s World Cup was held for the first time in the year 1991. Since then, this tournament is held at an interval of every 4 years, which has come one year after the Men’s FIFA World Cup. The host country was China and it was called FIFA Women’s World Championship at that time.

A total of 12 countries participated in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 1991 and a total of 26 matches were played from 16 November – 30 November 1991. The winning team was the United States under the captaincy of April Heinrichs.

On the current date, there are a total of eight FIFA Womens World Cup tournaments have been played and the United States is the most frequent winner with 4 titles, whereas Germany has won two times, Japan on time, and Norway one time. In FIFA Womens World Cup history, there were six countries that hosted FIFA. Those are the United States, China, Canada, France, Germany, and Sweden. 

Day by day many things are improving and changing with the vision to make the FIFA Womens World Cup more opportunistic, like for the first time in the FIFA Women’s World Cup history there will be 32 teams to participate, in the year 2019 there were only 24 teams and if you remember when the first tournament was organized, only 12 teams participated.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand jointly. This is going to happen for the first time in history that two counties will conduct FIFA Women’s World Cup. Not only this but it will be the first-ever senior tournament to be held across more than one confederation. Australia from  Asian Confederation and New Zealand from Oceania Confederation.

The bidding for the selection of the host country occurred in 2019. Firstly, 8 countries showed interest in hosting the senior tournament but when the number of participants increased from 24 to 32, the number of bidders get changed. On that Australia and New Zealand announced that they will come together to host the Women’s FIFA. 

On the other hand, Brazil, Colombia, and Japan tied up for the same. But later Brazil and Japan dropped the bidding before the final voting. Hence Australia and New Zealand got the chance to become the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 host countries togetherly. 

This is going to be the first FIFA Womens World Cup to be held in the Southern Hemisphere. Whether this is the first Women’s FIFA World Cup which will be hosted by more than one country but it is the second senior tournament of FIFA to be held in multiple nations after the Men’s FIFA World Cup 2002 hosted by Japan and South Korea.
